Serra High Prom 2011

For our last Prom of the season, we went to the Bahia Hotel & Resort for Serra High School’s Prom 2011. I’ve had the opportunity to DJ at the Bahia dozens of times for Point Loma, Bishop’s School and earlier this school year for La Jolla Country Day‘s Homecoming and I always enjoy the spectacular view through the windows in back of the ball room. This was our fourth dance this year for Serra High and the Juniors and Seniors came ready to dance. I played a variety of Top 40, Hip-Hop, Meringue, Electro and Techno for the crowd to keep the floor packed all night long. I ended the night with some old school Pop throwbacks which brought a great close to a fun evening. We look forward to working with the ASB next year for all of their dances and congratulations to all of the graduating Seniors. Please enjoy the highlight video I created below especially for Serra’s Prom 2011! – J. Soul

Patrick Henry Winter Formal 2011

Our third dance for Patrick Henry High School this year was our best one yet! It was held at the La Jolla Marriott and along with our good friend DJ Touch and our newest addition to the J. Soul Productions family, MC Lyrik. We provided intelligent dance floor lighting, sound and one of our custom LED facades. The administration and kids at Patrick Henry were extremely happy with how the dance went and we can’t wait to be back for Prom in May! 🙂

Serra High Winter Formal 2011

For the third time this year, we had the opportunity to DJ for Serra High School. This time it was for their Winter Formal which was held at The Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. This was my third time in the past almost 4 years DJing a dance at this venue and I worked along Ron Blazovic who does the lighting there. We brought in our custom-made LED facade to add an extra ambiance to the already amazing lighting and decor at the Hall of Champions and it definitely gave our stage a great feel. The theme of the dance was “Moonlit Mardi Gras” and the wonderful ASB at Serra High did a nice job of decorating with purple, gold and green to fit the theme. My dancers DJ Dev and Joey Mac were in attendance as well as the latest addition to the J. Soul Productions family, MC Lyrik. We had an amazing time and can’t wait to return to Serra in a few months to DJ their Prom 2011! 🙂

Serra High Homecoming 2010

If the movie “The Wizard of Oz” was held in a night club, that would be the best way to describe Serra High’s Homecoming 2010 aptly named “The Wicked Dance of the West.” Outside of the gym was transformed to resemble Kansas and inside was lit up in green everywhere to resembled Oz. Serra went big this year with a perimeter of four 10-foot truss pieces wrapped in spandex and up lit with green ambient lights and atop each tower was a high-tech laser. DJ/VJ Ayla Simone was on a stage in the middle of the gymnasium surrounded by two LED DJ Facades back lit with green, four 10-foot truss towers also up lit with green, intelligent lighting and four 47″ plasma screens. And if that wasn’t enough, around the gym were four custom-built dance platforms. Ayla mixed Top 40, Hip Hop and Electro music videos and threw in a few throwbacks as well to keep the dance floor of over 600 students packed. Our special thanks go out to Joe Schmidt and the AMAZING ASB at Serra High who put on an amazing Homecomingand we can’t wait to work with you on your next dance! 🙂

Patrick Henry Homecoming 2010

Patrick Henry‘s “Board Game Boogie” Homecoming was awesome! The ASB did a great job of creating board game-themed posters around the gym and along with the balloon archway and the lighting provided by J. Soul Productions, the dance was a huge success. DJ Dev played a wide variety of Hip Hop, Pop, Electro, Techno and line dances like “Cupid Shuffle” and “Cha Cha Slide.” The video was a little dark and the audio on it was somewhat distorted at times, but Jordan did his best to capture the excitement of the evening. It’s always a blast when we get a chance to return to Patrick Henry and our thanks go out to Mr. Miller, Lauren Naughton and the rest of the ASB for their dedication and hard work in making this dance another hot one! 🙂

Patrick Henry Welcome Back Dance 2010

3…2…1…BLAST off into an “Intergalactic Galaxy.” Doing his first school dance at his alma mater Patrick Henry High School, DJ Dev turned off the lights and launched the first dance of the 2010-2011 school year at “Henry Mission Control.” For this dance we used two American DJ UV Panels, our American DJ UV LED Bar, and the American DJ Revo 4 for lighting. That gave them out of this universe lighting effects and paired with two JBL PRX 525 speakers, DJ Dev rocked their world!

Dev did a great job of playing today’s Top 40 favorites as well as doing a few line dances and playing some throwback Techno hits. And to fit with the theme of the dance, Dev even threw in “Intergalactic” by The Beastie Boys. Not only did the gym glow, but the music choices put a huge smile on everyone’s faces students and administrators alike! Next stop…Patrick Henry High’s Homecoming 2010! 🙂

Serra High Welcome Back Dance 2010

It was “lights out” last night at Serra High School’s “Glow In The Dark” Welcome Back Dance last night…LITERALLY! It was a glow in the dark theme for the school’s first dance of the year and our mission was to make the gymnasium glow, so we brought in our two American DJ UV Panels and our American DJ UV LED Bar and lit up the entire gym with black lights. We also did some video mixing on two plasma screens hanging from 20 feet of truss along with four Comscan intelligent lights and four of our big JBL speakers. Once the lights went out, the students started filing in and the party began. I mixed the hottest Top 40, Hip Hop, Techno and Electro along with some throwbacks, the Cha Cha Slide and I even got out on the floor with the students and did the “Cupid Shuffle” with them. This was one of the biggest turnouts for their Welcome Back Dance with over 500 tickets sold and next month for Homecoming we’re hoping to double that number. Many thanks go out to Joe Schmidt and the awesome ASB, staff and chaperones at Serra High. Successful event, great kids and we’re excited about this new relationship! 🙂
